Unlike in yesterday’s graph of pitchers, there is a positive, if not very strong, correlation between strikeout rate and walk rate for batters. (Which makes sense — a hitter could have 100% walks and strikeouts if he never swung.) Further, home runs are correlated with strikeouts, and to some degree walks as well.
As always, Adam Dunn represents the extreme of the Three True Outcomes approach (maximizing walks, strikeouts and homers), while Ben Revere carries the torch of the Ball-In-Play Gods of Randomness. Only two hitters this year have more walks than strikeouts: Victor Martinez and Jose Bautista.
